ABOUT Home Again LA

Home Again L.A. (HALA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit homeless services agency with offices in Burbank, Glendale, and San Fernando. Founded in July 2010, HALA was created to address one of the fastest-growing segments of the unhoused population—families with children. The organization began by providing shelter in partnership with local congregations that offered overnight accommodations.

In 2017, HALA expanded its impact through partnerships with the cities of Glendale and Burbank to implement rapid rehousing initiatives. In 2019, in collaboration with the Burbank Housing Corporation and the City of Burbank, HALA launched Jerry’s Promise, a Transitional Housing program serving chronically unhoused families with children. In 2020, HALA merged with Glendale Communitas to enhance its outreach efforts, including community workshops and resource connections.

Continuing its growth, HALA merged with the Burbank Temporary Aid Center in 2026, further expanding services and strengthening a holistic, client-centered approach to meeting basic needs while creating pathways to long-term housing stability.

Over the years, HALA has grown into a comprehensive service provider, operating various core programs: Shelter, Eviction Prevention, Rapid Rehousing, Outreach, Grocery Distribution, Hygiene Resources and Transitional Housing.

OUR CORE PROGRAMS

Shelter

Rapid Rehousing

Eviction Prevention

Our first core program is our 90-day shelter for unhoused families with children. The program works in partnership with local congregations as we focus on temporary shelter, meals, case management and housing.

The Rapid Rehousing program helps transition unhoused families with children into permanent housing. Families are provided up to 6 months of rental subsidies. Then, our trained Case Managers work alongside families to set benchmarks that focus on housing and financial stability.

In partnership with local government agencies and private foundations, Home Again L.A. provides rental assistance and case management to families
at-risk of homelessness.

Transitional Housing

Grocery Distribution

Hygiene Resources

In 2018 Home Again L.A. partnered with City of Burbank and Burbank Housing Corporation to open a transitional housing program, Jerry's Promise, to provide short term housing for chronic unhoused families.

We provide essential food support to families facing housing instability and financial hardship. By offering consistent access to fresh groceries and pantry staples, we help ease the burden of rising living costs while ensuring households have the nourishment they need to thrive.

We provide access to essential laundry and shower facilities for households experiencing housing instability or are low-income. By offering a safe, clean space to refresh and care for themselves, we help restore dignity, promote health, and reduce daily stress.

Hala INSIGHTS

Targeted Population

Home Again LA's housing programs primarily serves families with children who are experiencing homelessness or are at imminent risk of losing their housing. This includes single parents, two-parent households, and multi-generational families facing financial hardship due to rising housing costs, job loss, or unexpected life events.

Our food and aid programs are designed to support unhoused or low-income households (families and individuals) who often fall through the cracks—those who may not qualify for long-term assistance but still struggle to meet basic needs. Many of the families we serve are working but unable to keep up with the high cost of living in Los Angeles County.

Through our housing, food, and supportive services, we focus on stabilizing families, preventing homelessness whenever possible, and helping that already unhoused transition into safe, permanent housing. We also prioritize serving the most vulnerable, including households with young children, survivors of domestic violence, and families facing multiple barriers to stability.

"I have been part of Home Again LA since the development stage. I've watched the organization grow in size and in number of families it's lifted out of homelessness."
