At Home Again Los Angeles, volunteers are the backbone of our mission to combat homelessness and foster self-sufficiency among affected families. By dedicating your time, skills, and compassion, you contribute to a community where hope blossoms and lives are transformed. Join us, and experience the profound impact of your generosity as we work together to create a stable, nurturing environment for those in need. Your involvement is not just a service, but a message of hope and a step towards a better tomorrow.

Volunteering in our shelter

  1. Stocking our Pantry - Our shelter program is in need of breakfast grab and go items. We are also in need of paper plates, spoons, forks, and cups.

  2. Dinner Preparation (Two or Three volunteers).

    1. Dinner is a hot meal prepared at the volunteers’ home or a meal purchased and delivered to our shelter. Dinner is served around 6-6:30 pm. This is a great opportunity for various groups/clubs – such as a woman’s, men’s, corporations and youth group. The shelter houses no more than 4 families at one time, no more than 14 individuals total. You provide the meal, serve the meal, and break bread with the families if you feel comfortable to do so.

  3. Dinner and evening hosts (Two volunteers 6:30-8:30 pm)

    1. Hosts arrive to open the building, welcome guests, lead the meal, make sure the time table is kept, insure safety, enforce program guidelines, and note needed pantry items for following days of hosting. Dinner and Evening Hosts also socialize with guests and assist with guests’ needs. After dinner Hosts may conduct children’s activities, help with homework, or assist a guest with a particular need.

  4. Overnight Hosts (One volunteers from 9:00 pm – 6:45am)

    1. Overnight hosts spend the night at the shelter. Overnight Hosts call curfew at the congregation’s set time and are available in case of emergency. Home Again LA has one employee overnight at all times however, we prefer to have two people on site in case of an emergency.
