A Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) is a powerful giving tool that allows you to make a charitable contribution now, receive immediate tax benefits, and recommend grants to Home Again LA (and other organizations) over time.

What is a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF)?

A Donor-Advised Fund is a type of charitable giving account that you set up through a public charity or financial institution. Once you contribute to the fund, you can recommend grants to your chosen nonprofits, such as Home Again LA, at your convenience.

With a DAF, you:

  • Receive an immediate tax deduction for your contribution.

  • Direct grants to Home Again LA whenever it suits you, even in future years.

  • Invest your donation in a variety of fund options, allowing it to grow over time.

  • Simplify your giving by managing all of your charitable donations in one account.

How Does It Work?

  1. Open a Donor-Advised Fund: You can set up a DAF through many financial institutions like Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, or the National Philanthropic Trust. Once you open the account, you make an initial donation, and the funds are eligible for an immediate tax deduction.

  2. Fund the Account: You can contribute cash, appreciated securities, or other assets to your DAF. Your contribution can grow tax-free, depending on how you invest the funds in the account.

  3. Recommend Grants to Home Again LA: Once your DAF is funded, you can recommend grants to Home Again LA whenever you choose. The grant will be sent directly to us, and we will use it to fund programs like housing solutions, employment assistance, and mental health services.

  4. Ongoing Giving: If you prefer, you can make multiple contributions to your DAF over time and continue recommending grants for years to come.

How to Recommend a Grant to Home Again LA

Making a grant recommendation from your DAF is easy:

  1. Log in to your DAF account with your provider.

  2. Choose Home Again LA as the recipient charity. Our legal name is Home Again LA, and our EIN is 26-2458342.

  3. Select the amount you wish to grant and submit your recommendation.

  4. Once approved, the grant will be sent directly to Home Again LA, and you will receive an acknowledgment of your generous support.
