Ms. Barrios and her young son, aged 9, have spent the last two years residing in a shelter. Despite the challenges of chronic homelessness, Wendy remained committed to her education, attending all her classes and successfully graduating from her program. Upon graduation, Wendy took a significant step forward in her life by acquiring her Class C license and securing a full-time job as a driver. After several months of employment, she felt ready to take the next big step for her and her son - moving into a home. Wendy’s Case Manager from the Rescue Mission’s Hope Gardens reached out to HALA for support. Working together, we were able to help Wendy and her son secure permanent housing, providing them with a foundation to work towards self-sufficiency.
